Misleading rate special

I wanted to sign up as a new freshbook customer using either the free or 60% off rate offered on the homepage. When you select it takes you to the regular rates. If you call the customer service number you can only leave a message. My husband thinks it is a red flag and making us leary of using. I had to use the chat which is frustrating why did it matter what type of business we have?

Old version 10X better than new version... now I'm stuck with a defective and buggy service

I'm a customer since 2012.... The new version is a nightmare compared to the old one. Forced to upgrade. "We'll send this issue to our developers" .... get used to that phrase. Major issues ( as of Feb / 2022 ) include: Can't open some things in new tab. Major time sucker. UI not even fast. Adding items to invoices is annoying because it is slow. Can't save invoice after updating due date ( intermittent ) Can't add new client from the Invoice Screen ( well you can but you can't email them the invoice because the new client function ( on the invoice page ) doesn't allow you to enter an email. These are supposed to be leaders in fintech. Can't see support thread in support emails. When you email them separate emails for each of your issues and they reply back with their response; but you have no idea which issue they are talking about because your original message is no included in the email thread. Search not picking up characters within words. The search tool is weak. Can't filter or search Invoices "to me." No way to show only invoices from a certain contractor because there isn't even a search field. Due date Lost on Recurring invoices. When they migrated me to the new buggy slow and annoying version all my recurring invoices now go out with a "due date" of today. So my clients complain to me about this unusually annoying issue. Knowing that most "upgrades" are usually disappointments I delayed until they forced me; this was a couple years. And they still had all sorts of simple basic "how could noone else not have already reported this bug" type of issues. Simple things like the hourly rate not being imported for projects and contractors. This caused multiple invoices to go out with issues.

New version is seriously missing even basic accounting functions

I'm going to be very honest here. We are a small incorporated business & have used the original Freshbooks (called "Classic") for about 7 years. We liked the original one, it worked well & fulfilled our needs as an accounting software for small businesses & self-employed individuals. It was simple, easy to use & followed basic accounting principles. Fast forward to when we had no choice but to migrate over the the "New" Freshbooks. And it has caused us so much frustration.* For one, they took the ability to input vendor credit notes away. REALLY??? What accounting software has no function to process credit notes? Yes, I am in contact with Support but going by the update, the developers do not view this function as a priority to add back into the software. I now have a stack of vendor credit notes set aside while I wait for the developers to fix this issue, credit notes that I cannot accurately input into our books. And the stack is growing. * Also, when we issue a customer a credit note, it does not show up on their Statement of Account & when it gets processed on a payment, it is not treated as a separate document (essentially a negative invoice) & so must be deducted from an invoice that the customer is paying, even if that invoice has nothing to do with the credit note they are taking. I have also spent A LOT of time on the phone sharing this frustration with Support. Falling back on the developers, this is not a priority to them nor do I get the impression that it will be added. Again, on the Classic Freshbooks, this feature was much more true to standard accounting software.* Also on the New Freshbooks, one cannot enter a negative line item on either a customer invoice or a vendor invoice. Again, this feature was available on the Classic version.* Expenses & Bills are separated. The former is basically fuel, restaurant, Home Depot & other retail receipts. The latter is vendor invoices & are generally of greater dollar amount than retail receipts, atleast for our small trade business they are. When you go into the Dashboard to get a snapshot of your expenditures, only the smaller purchases show up, not the grand total of receipts AND vendor invoices. * Unlike the Classic Freshbooks, only our accountant can add new accounts to the Chart of Accounts, so we cannot customize our expenses & revenues as we previously could.* Unlike the Classic Freshbooks, only the accountant can do journal entries. For someone like me, who has the experience & knowledge of how & when to do journal entries, this is very limiting & frustrating.* In the Classic Freshbooks, we could set up our HST info in our company profile section so it would show up & print on each & every invoice, as required by Revenue Canada since we collect HST for them. We just found out from a new customer that our invoice was missing this info. Sure enough, they were correct, it was no longer there. Nor was it on any of the other invoices we looked up for other random customers. We had to waste time trying to figure out how & where to add our HST number so it would show up on the invoices each & every time.* In the new Freshbooks, one can only reconcile bank statements if you integrate it with the bank through their portal. I have not set that up yet because I do not feel confident about this service, & rightfully so. An acquaintance of mine who also uses Freshbooks at her work told me that they have set it up for their company & that it is a nightmare to use. They are also a longtime Classic Freshbooks customer who misses the Classic Freshbooks, & are also very unhappy with the new version. So I am glad that I haven't set up the bank reconciliation feature on ours.I hate to be so brutally honest but, the migration to the New Freshbooks (now the only Freshbooks) has been a nightmare. Inspite of what support has told us, it is still being marketed on it's website as an accounting software for small business owners & yet the new version is so lacking of even the most basic of accounting features & principles that it fails it's purpose. I don't know if Freshbooks is under new ownership or what, but it most certainly seems like the developers have no care to add back even the most basic accounting capabilities that the Classic had. We are also being charged significantly more each month for the same package we've had from day 1. We now pay close to $75 Cdn each month as opposed to the $55 to $60 we were paying each month for the version that actually worked for us.I want to add, support is available & staff are kind & professional, but often they are unable to assist & must escalate it to others. That is often as far as you get because ultimately, it is something that can only be fixed by the now infamous product developers. It really is such a shame as we were really happy with the original (Classic) version.

"Good Software for Freelance Service Providers"

What do you like best?

Freshbooks software was easy to set up and use. It offered the ability to brand your invoices, keep track of expenses and even do a P & L so you know where you stand financially. I also liked their support team. Their support was easy to reach and I was always able to speak with a real person, not a chatbot.

What do you dislike?

I used it for many years but about 5 years back they began making changes to their platform including increased pricing for Everything!!! I had a number of clients and subcontractors. They required subcontractors to be set up as 'employees' on their end if you wanted to keep track of hours to bill clients. They began charging more for each client and each 'employee' (their word) and my account that was costing me $25 a month suddenly jumped to over $75 a month. I could not afford that when I could easily switch to QuickBooks for $25 a month.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Client Invoicing, timekeeping, expense tracking, and some accounting reports.

"Amazing Accounting Solution for Small Business"

What do you like best?

I love Freshbooks ease-of-use and variety of features. I use it for sending estimates/proposals to clients, tracking time on projects, generating invoices and collecting payments. With the connection to my business bank account, I can reconcile all income and expenses and easily run detailed reports on where money is coming from and going to. Once an invoice is generated (usually based on the time tracked against the project/client), it is sent to the client, along with any needed reminder emails. All-in-all, Freshbooks has significantly reduced the amount of time I spend on the "administrative" front, while making it easier for my clients to pay me.

What do you dislike?

No major dislikes. If I had to nit-pick, I wish there was an option to have invoice reminders sent "indefinitely" every X days until payment was received (rather than only have 3 scheduled reminder emails sent). It took some time for me to get a grasp on how bank reconciliation worked, but I can't be sure if that's a GUI issue, or just lack of experience on my end. A few times I have wished for immediately-available chat support (only phone and email available), but on the plus side, the support I have received has always been top-notch.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I switched to Freshbooks from another application because I wanted time-tracking integrated with invoice creation. That switch eventually led to taking payments online via credit cards. For me, not having to spend a lot of time on the administrative aspects of billing has been hugely valuable (not just financially, but also for my sanity).
